Docent Council Meeting, Second Monday of every month, 7pm

2009-2010 Docent Training Schedule
DITSchedule.doc (Word Document) (Revised February 10, 2010)

IMPORTANT REMINDER:

The 8th QUARTERLY DOCENT FORUM  will be held this SUNDAY, June 27, 2010 at the First Church of Christ, Scientist. There will be tours of the facility and refreshments at 1:30 p.m . The program is scheduled for 2:00 pm .

We are privileged to be able to hold the Forum in the First Church of Christ, Scientist. This beautiful building is historically important to the Mission Inn as it introduced Mission Revival style architecture in Riverside .  It clearly inspired Frank Miller's concept for the first wing of his grand hotel; indeed, he used the same architect.  And, a n architect is not the only thing the church and the hotel share, however, as early church members included Frank Miller's mother, Mrs. C.C. Miller, and his two sisters.

Veteran docent and author WALTER PARKS will keynote this event. He will conclude our three-part series on the architects of the Mission Inn, with information about Arthur Benton - the architect who designed both the First Church of Christ, Scientist and the Mission Inn more than 100 years ago.

Again, please note the location for this event : First Church of Christ, Scientist. The Church is located at the corner of 6 th and Lemon Streets in downtown Riverside . Parking is available on the streets and in the Library parking lot.

Looking forward to seeing you on Sunday!

Friends of the Mission Inn 40th Anniversary exhibit
Date:September 17, 2009 through Spring 2010
Location: MissionInnMuseum

In 1969, a group of dedicated, civic-minded women and men came together to raise money to save the Mission Inn, then in dire need of restoration. Forty years later, The Friends of the Mission Inn is still going strong, having raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to restore the precious art and artifacts of this National Historic Landmark hotel. This exhibit salutes their decades of tireless service to the Mission Inn and takes a look back at their many restoration projects that have contributed to the hotel’s enduring success
