Frank Augustus Miller Middle School opening for 2009-2010 school year
In August 2009 the Riverside Unified School District unveils their newest school – Frank Augustus Miller Middle School, located in Orangecrest, in the southwest part of the city. The Mission Inn Foundation is proud to be associated with this state-of-the-art facility, which is the first public building named for the Mission Inn’s visionary and entrepreneurial founder. Architectural elements reminiscent of the National Historic Landmark Mission Inn have been incorporated into the design. Permanent display cases will allow the Mission Inn Foundation to work with the school to develop exhibits, and the Mission Inn Foundation will be working as an educational partner with the school. Students will start attending in August, and mark your calendars – a series of public celebrations will be held in early 2010.
Friends of the Mission Inn 40th Anniversary exhibit
Date:September 17, 2009 through Spring 2010
Location: MissionInnMuseum
In 1969, a group of dedicated, civic-minded women and men came together to raise money to save the Mission Inn, then in dire need of restoration. Forty years later, The Friends of the Mission Inn is still going strong, having raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to restore the precious art and artifacts of this National Historic Landmark hotel. This exhibit salutes their decades of tireless service to the Mission Inn and takes a look back at their many restoration projects that have contributed to the hotel’s enduring success.
