Aviator - Orville Wright
3rd Grade Lesson Plan

Updated: September 6, 2005

rank Miller opened the Mission Inn in 1903, the same year that Orville and Wilbur Wright made their first flight at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. The brother’s first flight on December 17, 1903 was only 12 seconds long. They proved it was possible to fly a machine that was heavier than air. That same day the brothers made three more flights, each longer than the first.

On January 28, 1947 Orville Wright was the 57th flier to have the copper wings added to the Famous Fliers Wall at the Mission Inn. Unfortunately Mr. Wright was unable to attend the ceremony because he was sick.
