The California Missions and Henry Chapman Ford (1828-1894)
A special lecture by Mr. Jean Stern, Executive Director - The Irvine Museum
Date: Saturday, March 10, 2012
Time: 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Location: Spanish Art Gallery, Historic Mission Inn Hotel and Spal
Cost: $5 per person
As a recognized authority on
California Impressionism, art
historian Jean Stern is well
prepared to present a program
featuring the Mission Inn’s
extensive collection of artist
Henry Chapman Ford’s California
mission paintings. Ford’s paintings, along with
that of Englishman Edwin Deakin (1838-1923)
and Alexander Harmer (1856-1925), provide an
unmatched record of California’s historical past.
These paintings not only sparked interest in
the missions themselves, but also generated a
movement to restore the deteriorating landmarks.
In addition to his position as Executive Director of
The Irvine Museum, Mr. Stern is an author, curator,
lecturer, and teacher. Please, come and join us in
welcoming Mr. Stern to the Mission Inn.
