Invitation of World Athletes "With our history of excellence and natural attributes, we will establish Riverside as the home of, and training ground for, worldclass athletes." (Taken from Strategic Plan, Initiative 8.4) The 2010 Mission Inn Run is pleased to have Abderrahmane Morceli on its committee as a liason to the World-Wide running community. Morceli has not only himself competed at the world level, but successfully coached his brother Noureddine Morceli ... gold medalist in the 1500 m run at the 1996 Summer Olympics. The Morcelis were born in Algeria. Noureddine attended and trained at our own Riverside Community College. Although he went on to compete worldwide - unbeaten in 45 finals from 1992-1996 and setting 6 world records - Noureddine would return to Riverside during his career to train and enjoy the mild climate in winter. He returns to Riverside once again to participate in the 2010 Mission Inn Run. Abderrahmane Morceli presently coaches and trains at RCC. Still maintaining his relationships with the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF), formal invitations have been extended on behalf of the Mission Inn Run committee welcoming their participation on November 14th ! |
